The self-initiated work adjustment for learning scale: development and validation

Purpose The purpose of this study is to develop the self-initiated work adjustment for learning (SIWAL) scale that measures adjustments employees make in their enhance learning, based on theories and research workplace design. Design/methodology/approach SIWAL was validated two independent studies. Study 1 ( n = 208) focused internal consistency factor structure scale. 2 178) re-examined factorial using confirmatory analysis investigated validity. Findings In both studies, showed good psychometric characteristics, i.e. a clear two-factorial reliable sub-scales. findings also indicated convergent, divergent concurrent Research limitations/implications Using scale, future could focus individual, social organizational predictors outcomes SIWAL, collect supervisor peer ratings further validate self-report investigate lower-educated workers. Practical implications Organizations might try employees' through policies, such as supportive leadership, climate. Originality/value This provides first step toward better understanding what workers do learning. indicate address adaptive behaviors: adjusting job responsibilities interactions.
